Other activities over the holidays included sessions with Looked After Children who spent a day getting acquainted with Shakespeare and also created their own movies filmed in and around Prenton Park. A weekly session will be taking place during the autumn term with this group in conjunction with Wirral’s “Get Into Reading” team as part of the National Year of Reading.

Transition Summer School

Pupils from several Wirral primary schools have taken part in a summer school at the Centre in July and August working alongside Bebington High Sports College, Wirral Libraries and Create Multimedia. The course was aimed at helping them to make the transition from primary to secondary school and proved very successful. Highlights included creating their own animations, researching the Olympics at Birkenhead Library and making their own Match of the Day movie at various locations around the stadium.

Tranmere’s Playing for Success scheme, based in the club’s Learning Centre, has been recognised for its contribution to the learning of children and young people from Wirral schools by achieving QiSS (Quality in Study Support) Emerged status. Centre staff Andy Heywood and Debbie McNally produced a detailed portfolio of evidence supporting their application prior to giving a presentation at Batley Bulldogs RLFC last term.This is the first of three levels of recognition and work is underway to achieve Established status during the 2008/9 academic year.

Meanwhile, pupils from Church Drive, Lingham and Christchurch
(Moreton) primary schools have completed 10 week courses at
the Learning Centre. Highlights have included working with
Apple Mac systems, meeting and interviewing first team players
and going on guided tours, not only of Prenton Park, but also
Borders bookstore in Ellesmere Port.

A summer school is to take place at the Centre in July and

Following the recent award of a Heritage Lottery Grant and the performance of

“PRIDE: Tranmere Rovers Remembered”

staff from the Learning Centre at Tranmere Rovers FC are working with the Young People’s Management Team to recruit researchers aged 13 to 17 to work on the next phase of the project.

Between now and September we will be carrying out further research into the history of Tranmere Rovers FC, including interviewing members of the public about their memories of the Club. We will be working with multimedia equipment and our findings will be used to create a resource pack for local schools.

Rovers Remembered – A ‘Young Roots’ funded Heritage Drama Project

Tranmere Rovers Drama Project!

Following the recent award of a Heritage Lottery Grant, pupils from the Learning Centre at Tranmere Rovers have teamed up with the Active Drama Company to work on a project based on the history of the football club.

The young people, all from local secondary schools, have been researching the Club’s history and have created their own piece of musical theatre entitled:-

“PRIDE: Tranmere Rovers Remembered”

This vibrant, exciting and entertaining show lasted an hour and a half and will was performed on Thursday 12th and Friday 13th June at 7:30 p.m.
